Default Leaving off a button in Stock

First of all, if I am not mistaken I thought it was legal to leave off a button and 2 step in stock, but not a transbrake. Maybe this is just an NHRA rule and not legal in IHRA. At any rate, with some bracket tracks going No Box instead of footrbake and not thinking my car would be suited to a transbrake leave I was thinking about this. If this is something anyone has played with how do you mount the button. I have heard of them being on the footbrake, but can you use just any old button to do it this way since you will be applying quite a bit of pressure to the butto? Or, is it just as easy to let go of the button with your finger and the footbrake at the same time? How much RT can be gained by leaving off a button and a low side pill vs. off just the footbrake?
