Yes, please come show us how fast you can go with no penalty! LOL. This is the race that nobody should attend. An ambush in the making.

Hey Paul, they already have all the incremental times for the old combos, just not enough info on the newer cars, thus, the no AHFS. It really doesn't matter, the newer cars are in a more favorable position.
Like Dwight said, egos come into play, so it should be fun. Question is, how many of the top 10 spots will be newer cars? Ron Ortiz U/SA if I entered, will they give me less HP.

Wow. Lots of conspiracy theories. Nary a shred of evidence. Any chance this was done simply because enough racers, manufacturers, and perhaps even a few hard core fans asked for it?
Personally, I think this has the makings of the best class race in a decade. I'd hate to think anyone is staying home just because they feel the need to protect their combination. But oh, please make Sept. 1-2 a pair of cool crisp fall days in Indy. |

My belief is that the "Flat Out" no AHFS US Nationals that is being offered by NHRA is "not designed to fool competitors" in to showing their hand in order to gather the necessary information that they feel they need to level the playing field once and for all.
In my opinion if that was NHRA's motive they could have secretly used the ammunition gathered over past National Open events where most competitors raced with no fear what so ever of the AHFS and It could have been corrected long ago. Seems to me there is not much chance they haven't been over the results from those events with a fine tooth comb and Nitro's stats lay all the cards right on the table for all to see. My believe is that NHRA is reacting to the many complaints from racers who are totally unhappy with the fact that the Factory Shootout cars are being allowed "special privileges" by being exempt from the AHFS and therefore dominating the top half of the qualifying sheet. Just my .02

I am not supporting this senerio, but stop and think about it. Indy is the only race where we qualify and slower ones (based on current HP ratings), do not get to race. For all other races, everyone races. The only time AHFS comes into play is a "heads up" race. All other runs are "bracket races".
A simply change by NHRA would eliminate all of the headaches for NHRA trying to keep up with hundreds, if not thousands of combinations and the bit--ing from us racers. - Run everyone that is entered at all races, including Indy - Eliminate "heads up" races...every race, you dial your time. No reason to have AHFS. Be careful what you wish for.
